Gustavo Alvarez

Gustavo Álvarez, born in Mexico City in the year 1973, received his education on Social Anthropology at the National School of Anthropology and History specializing on Visual Anthropology. He started performing in 2003, making his first actions in the public space, and then began to present his works in the performance art circuit. Álvarez concluded a series of workshops in the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua with the indigenous Raramuris, and has organized with the “Encounter of Performance” Performancear o Morir ” with Magda Rivera since 2008. He also curates and organizes the InSitu Festival with two editions in Chihuahua and one in Guanajuato. He has participated in a number of international events such as the “Infraction, Venezia” in Venice, Italy, “Live Action 8” in Gotemborgh of Sweden, “International Performance Congress”, Valparaíso, Chile, “International Encounter of Performance and Politics”, Bogotá, Colombia and “LIVE” Performance Biennial, Vancouver, Canada. He has also participated in artistic residencies “La Chartreuse” in Avignon, France; “Tou Scene” in Stavanger, Norway and “CRANE” in Le Chevegny, France.
