Dimitrije Zekic

Dimitrije Zekic is a sculptor from Hangzhou. Born in 1992, the artist completed his Bachelors of Fine Arts from the department of Sculpture.

Some of his notable exhibitions are Mindfulness – The Third Studio Annual Exhibition Plan of the Sculpture Department of the School of Sculpture and Public Art and “Four Sea Art Together” – Exhibition of 40th Anniversary of China Academy of Art Study in China.

Concept:

With my art-work I wanted to represent the situation of people who leave their homes and go out to seek for their fortune in foreign lands. The idea came from the tendency of young people in my country leaving and going to more prosperous countries. They often go without any knowledge of the language or anything more detailed to the country they are immigrating. Ignorance forms blindness and deafness to the surrounding and not being familiar with the language you become mute unable to express yourself and your feelings. Not fitting into the society you build yourself shackles and other movement impairments. Naked in a jungle like environment you stay and try to collect pieces while people around see you like a wild animal, screaming and muttering for them un-understandable things. By the time you finally are able to accomplish to light a fire, as symbol of home and hope, your time is already gone.
